    Archive 01 · El Adobe, Sunset & Alvarado, the first location
    The name
    A restaurant renamed for a nephew who was sent to Vietnam.

    Pepe's was founded in Southern California in 1962 by two brothers, Joe and Tony Russi. The first restaurant sat on Sunset and Alvarado in Los Angeles, and it was called El Adobe.

    They renamed it Pepe's in honor of their nephew, Jose Luis Palacios, who was sent off to fight in Vietnam. In 1964 the restaurant relocated to Valley Boulevard in Alhambra, where it still thrives today.

    Tony Russi passed away in 1976, leaving Joe and his wife Maria to run the business. The youngest of the three brothers, Fred, joined soon after and opened the Downey and Orange County locations.

    Do you really serve breakfast all day?
    Yes. Every breakfast item, from breakfast burritos to huevos rancheros, is available from the minute we open until the minute we close, at every kitchen.
    What are your hours?
    Most kitchens run 7am to 10pm Sunday through Thursday and stay open until midnight Friday and Saturday. Garden Grove is 7am to 10pm every day. The board at the top of this page shows live status for every kitchen right now.
    Do you deliver?
    Yes, from every location through DoorDash and Uber Eats. Online ordering closes about 30 minutes before the kitchen does.
    Do you cater?
    Trays of the same food we serve at the counter, sized to your headcount. Hit Cater Your Event anywhere on the site, tell us the date, place, and headcount, and we reply within one business day.
    Is there a drive-thru?
    Most locations, and it stays open late on Friday and Saturday nights.
    Where was the first Pepe's?
    A restaurant called El Adobe on Sunset and Alvarado in Los Angeles, opened in 1962 by brothers Joe and Tony Russi and renamed Pepe's for their nephew Jose Luis Palacios. It moved to Valley Boulevard in Alhambra in 1964, where it still runs today.
